A prayer for today: 3a

Lord of my life, whose law I desire to keep, whose fellowship I want to enjoy, and to whose service I would happily be loyal, I kneel before you as you send me forth to the work of another day.

For this new day I give you humble thanks: for its gladness and its brightness: for its long hours waiting to be filled with joyous and helpful effort: for its open doors of possibility: for its hope of new beginnings. Quicken in my heart, I pray, the desire to take advantage of today’s opportunity. Do not let me break faith with any of yesterday’s promises, nor leave any of yesterday’s wrongs unrepaired. Let me see no fellow traveler in distress and pass by on the other side. Let me leave no summit of obligation or any evil habit behind me unchallenged. Where my action can help to make this world a better place for people to live in, where my word can cheer a despondent heart or brace a weak will, where my prayer can serve the extension of Christ’s Kingdom, there let me act and speak and pray.

This day, O Lord—
Make me courteous.
Make me humble, and determined to show integrity.
Make me patient.
Make me loving.
Make me virtuous.
Make me speak sincerely.
Make me diligent in my given undertaking.
O God who in the fullness of time did raise up our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to enlighten our hearts with the knowledge of your love, grant me the grace to be worthy of His name. Amen.
