A prayer for today: 21a

O Holy Spirit of God, visit my soul, and linger within it until evening. Inspire all my thoughts. Pervade all my imaginations. Suggest all my decisions. Lodge in my will’s most inward refuge and order all my efforts. Be with me in my silence and in my speech, in my haste and in my leisure, in company and in solitude, in the freshness of the morning and in the weariness of the evening; and give me grace at all times to rejoice in your mysterious companionship.

My heart an altar, and your love the flame.

Accompany me today, O Spirit invisible, wherever I go, but stay with me also when I am in my own home and with my family. Encourage me to show to those nearest to me the sympathy and consideration which your grace enables me to show to others. Urge me to show my own friends and family the courtesy and politeness which I think proper to show to strangers. Let charity today begin at home.

Stay with me, O gracious Presence, when I devote time to reading, or listening to or watching broadcast media. Guide my mind as I choose and, having chosen, to make the best use of the medium. Let all my reading, listening, and viewing so refresh my mind that I may the more eagerly seek after those things that are pure and fair and true.

Let me have a special sense of your nearness to me, O God, in the times I devote to prayer, to worship, or to the receiving of the Blessed Sacrament; through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
