A prayer for today: 1a

Eternal Father of my soul, let my first thought today be of you, let my first impulse be to worship you, let my first speech be your name, let my first action be to kneel before you in prayer.
For your perfect wisdom and perfect goodness;
For the love you pour out on your people;
For the love you pour out on me;
For the great and mysterious opportunity of my life;
For the indwelling of your Spirit in my heart;
For the gifts of the Spirit;
I praise and worship you, O Lord.
Do not, I pray, allow me to end this prayer and go through my day having forgotten you. Instead let light and joy and power go out from these moments of quietness that will remain with me the whole day long.
Keep me pure in thought;
Keep me pleasant and truthful in speech;
Keep me faithful and diligent in my work;
Keep me humble in my estimation of myself;
Keep me fair and generous in my dealings with others;
Keep me loyal to every sacred memory of the past;
Keep me mindful of my eternal calling as a child of God.
O God, you have been the protector of your people through all our generations. Be my protector today in every situation. Be my guide through all that is dark and doubtful. Be my guard against all threats to my spirit. Be my strength against temptation. Fill my heart with peace and joy; through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen
