Kate's Buns

Roll Recipe
Today I decided to go through the stack of old recipes my mom had saved and preserve them by scanning and/or typing them in.  Some pages I simply scanned and saved as pdf's because I don't think I'll ever make those recipes and I wanted to preserve some of the "old": the stained paper and the handwriting. Some of the recipes were written on the backs of 4" by 6" forms that my dad must have used to record the service calls he made working in the gas and electric company service department.

DIY Patriotic T shirts for Kids!

DIY Patriotic t-shirts | Fun With Kids

We love to celebrate our patriotism in the summer, beginning with the unofficial first day of summer: Memorial Day! Who loves flag-waving more than kids? And nothing says summer like red, white and blue!

DIY Summery Flower Skirt

Modeling her summery skirt.
Doesn't my granddaughter look summery in her flowered skirt—perfect for lunch with her sister and aunt!

The inspiration came from Interweave Stitch magazine, Summer 2013 issue. This granddaughter plans to be a fashion designer one day. (A month ago, she was going to run a restaurant, which would be built next door to my house. Handy!) She was looking through this magazine and asked me to make a skirt she saw there.

A dress from a shirt!

After I used parts of a shirt to cut elbow patches, I used the rest to make this cute dress/tunic for my granddaughter. The idea came from MADE. That girl is creative!

This shirt was a man's Fitted 16.  After shirring, it fits a 2-year-old!

This girl looks so cute in her LBD!

Elbow patches!

One of the men in my family has worn out the elbows of several of his shirts in such a way that they have small tears in the fabric. Rather than replace them all, he asked if I would put elbow patches on them to extend their lives. Here's how I did it.

A Gift for a Friend

The idea for this centerpiece came just in time from Eat.Sleep.Make. It's a Mother's Day gift  for a dear friend.
